Lets Go! Move On! Youth Conference

Wednesday 11th Aug 2004

It involved students from Mülheim and its 5 twin towns, Darlington, Tours (France), Kuusankoski (Finland), Opole (Poland), and Kfar Saba (Israel).

During the week each town had to make a presentation on how sport affected life in their region. Darlington’s presentation was excellent and included powerpoint and video showing all the different sports, clubs involved, disability in sport, racism, drugs and bribery.

David Hodgson, manager of Darlington FC gave the students full access to the team and facilities at the club in the making of the video.

The week also involved participation in many sports such as skiing, snow boarding, canoeing, beach volleyball, aerobics, swimming and cycling.

Workshops were also held during the week, and one of these involved producing lyrics for, and recording a CD based on the event, encompassing all 6 languages - this took 7 hours in the studio to complete.

Visits were also made to Schalke FC where they had discussions with officials, and to see Starlight Express.

Many hours of preparation were required to make Darlington’s input into this conference the undoubted success it was.

They also integrated so well with students from the other countries, and have made many long term friends both for themselves and for our town

We can be proud of their efforts
