Hummersknott Academy and Otto Pankok Schule Exchange 2013

Tuesday 31st Dec 2013

Once again a group of 14 students from year 10 from Otto Pankok school in Mülheim visited Darlington this September.

Although we have been visiting Darlington for many years now we are so lucky to start a new exchange with Hummersknott Academy. All students and teachers stayed with students from Hummersknott Academy and so experienced Darlington and the English culture in a completely new way with their host families.

The host students showed us their school and the English way of learning and we were even allowed to join them for some lessons, which was very funny as some of us had to learn Chinese.
In the course of the week we also met the Mayor and his wife in the town hall and they patiently answered all our questions about Darlington.

One of our highlights was the tour around the Civic theatre where we met many funny ghosts and listened to interesting stories about the history of the building. We also went on many trips around Darlington, visiting York with its many museums and lovely town centre or Shildon Railway museum and Durham.

Due to the cancellation of our flight we had to stay for another night in a nice hotel next to the airport and went into Newcastle to see the millennium bridge and the wonderful art museum. Unfortunately we had to go home after 9 exciting days.

We are all very much looking forward to the visit of our English friends from Darlington in summer 2014 before setting off to Darlington again next September.
