60th Anniversary - Mülheim Christmas Market

Friday 29th Nov 2013

Along with members of the Mulheim twinning association Nigel Davison and I had a stall for 3 days in the Altstadt Adventsmarkt. We had sent across many items with the Charisma Choir coach following their successful visit here in October.

There were about 50 stalls on the market selling all kinds of Xmas items including typical German food and drink.
Our wares included jam and chutney, Christmas cakes and puddings, chocolates of different kinds, mulled and ginger wine, port with cheese and biscuits, anniversary mugs and plates, and Yorkshire tea.

Friday it rained all evening however sales were still good, and Saturday and Sunday were much brighter days, and by 8pm on Sunday we were sold out! Many of our Mulheim friends came to visit us at the market, and we were again overwhelmed by the hospitality shown to us by members of their twinning association.

We were also able to visit the Town Hall, Otto Pankok Schule, (twinned with Hummersknott school), and local colleges to arrange events for next year.
Nigel and I were also able to visit the Xmas market in Duisburg on our way back to the airport, and this was again a memorable experience.

This has now become an annual event and we look forward to a similar visit in 2014. Report by Tom Nutt
