50th Anniversary Visit to Mülheim

Tuesday 9th Sep 2003

In September a Civic delegation from Darlington, along with a citizens group, made the return visit to Mülheim an der Ruhr, where they also received Civic receptions both in Mülheim an der Ruhr and in the Nordrhein Westphalia parliament building in Duesseldorf, where they were hosted by the President Herr Schmidt.

The highlight of this visit was a week long Darlington Exhibition held in the Forum shopping centre which was seen by over 100,000 people. The exhibition included catering students from Darlington College, baker from Asda who made typical English bread, stotties, hot cross buns etc in a local bakery, singer, street entertainer, model trains, radio club, tourist information and history and flower town stands.

We also had a “Golden Record” book for people to record their experiences of visits and links between the towns.
